Where you are now
You’re getting more involved with Gemara.
You may be returning after a pause, filling gaps from childhood, or beginning for the first time.
You want to deepen your understanding and become a more active, confident learner.
Where you are now
You may be returning after a pause, filling gaps from childhood, or beginning for the first time.
You want to deepen your understanding and become a more active, confident learner.
What you want
You’re ready to start moving past translations – understanding the words, following the reasoning, learning the primary commentaries in their original language, and eventually using a regular Gemara independently.
What can be hard to find
Most resources explain ideas rather than teaching you how to understand the text yourself.
That can take hours of practice and guidance, and it isn’t always easy to get help on someone else’s schedule.
Introducing Hisbonen
It is an interactive guide through the entire process of learning Gemara.
Hisbonen speaks out every step that a teacher would explain, including complete coverage of language, inference, interpretation, analysis, and commentary.
How it fits
Learn in small, manageable sessions that fit around work, family, and other responsibilities.
With guidance from your Rabbinic mentors, learn on your own, or alongside a class, study-partner, or learning program.
What Hisbonen includes
Hisbonen guides you step by step through everything you need to move from individual words to the meaning of the sentence as a whole.
Consult classic dictionaries, explore roots and related words, see usage in Tanach, and standard conjugations for every kind of Hebrew and Aramaic verb.
What Hisbonen includes
Ask the questions that reveal not only what the text means, but why it says things exactly the way it does—aiming for total comprehension of the text and all of its nuances.
Follow the primary commentaries in their original words, and see how each one understands the text.
A personal note✉️
I started learning when I was 25.
I learned in Machon Shlomo, Torah Ore, Edison, and Ner Yisroel.
It took a lot of years to figure things out.
It could have been smoother with different resources.
A dedication
R’ Zemmel z”l was a close student of R’ Chaim Pinchas Sheinberg z”l. He and his Rosh Kollel R’ Yaakov Frankel shlita initiated many students into a nuanced and rigorous style of learning.
Hisbonen is based on my imperfect understanding of his approach, from the years that I learned with him.
A personal request
We’d love to show Hisbonen to more people whom it could help. Before we can, we need 10 people to complete the full demo and share their feedback.
If you agree to be one of them, your feedback will directly shape the direction of the project.
